Plasencia launched its own consumer brand in 2017 after 150 years as one of Central America's largest tobacco-growing dynasties, putting estate-grown leaf directly under its own label.

The Plasencia family story begins in Cuba in 1865, when Don Eduardo Plasencia arrived from the Canary Islands to grow tobacco in Vuelta Abajo. After the Cuban Revolution forced the family off their farms in the 1960s, they relocated through Mexico and eventually into Nicaragua and Honduras, replanting their best saved seeds and rebuilding entirely from scratch across two countries.
For most of the twentieth century, Plasencia operated as a grower and manufacturer for other brands rather than as a consumer name in its own right. By 2015 the family had become the world's largest tobacco farmer for premium cigars, supplying leaf and rolling services to dozens of well-known labels. The decision to launch a proprietary brand in 2017 was a deliberate pivot: if they were growing the best tobacco in Central America, they would also showcase it themselves.
The Alma Series
The Alma Fuerte ("Strong Soul") and Alma del Campo ("Soul of the Fields") were the twin launch pillars. Alma Fuerte is an ultra-premium line built from the family's oldest, most reserved tobaccos — ligero-heavy and full-bodied, typically priced above $20 per cigar. Alma del Campo is a Nicaraguan puro using tobaccos exclusively from Plasencia's own fields, positioned at a slightly lower price point but still firmly in the premium tier. The Cosecha line draws from specific harvest years, with each release identified by the crop vintage, offering a harvest-dated transparency rare in the industry.
With operations spanning both Honduras and Nicaragua, Plasencia now produces roughly 45 million cigars annually across client and proprietary work, making it one of the most consequential names in the supply chain behind the scenes.
