The La Vega is the short, stout 5.25 x 52 Robusto Gordo in Plasencia's Cosecha 146 line — a single-harvest cigar made entirely from Criollo '98 grown on the family's Honduran and Nicaraguan farms in 2011–12 and aged for years. It picked up high marks and year-end honors from the cigar press.

What it tastes like

A medium-bodied, oily smoke with real complexity for its size. It leads with earth and cedar, adds warm cinnamon and a bright citrus lift reminiscent of bergamot tea, and rounds out with coffee and a little orange-liqueur sweetness as it concentrates toward the band. The Honduran Jamastrán wrapper keeps it smooth, and the shorter format makes it a satisfying 45-minute smoke.

Who it's for

Ideal for everyday smokers who want flavor and nuance without a long commitment, and approachable for beginners ready to move past mild. Coffee or red wine both work well. As a Honduran-Nicaraguan blend it sits between two great cigar traditions — read Cuban vs Nicaraguan cigars for context, and the cigar strength guide for where "medium" sits.
