Padrón cigars

On September 8, 1964, José Orlando Padrón — a Cuban exile who had fled the Castro government — opened a small storefront on West Flagler Street in Miami with a single roller and a mission: to produce the kind of cigars he could no longer find in his adopted city. From that modest beginning, Padrón Cigars has grown into one of the most respected family-owned operations in the premium cigar world, without ever going public or changing hands.

The pivotal move came in 1970, when José discovered that the Estelí valley in Nicaragua shares the microclimate and soil characteristics of Cuba's Pinar del Río region. He relocated production there, cultivating Cuban-seed tobacco that would give the blend its distinctive depth. Today all Padrón tobaccos are estate-grown in Nicaragua, aged a minimum of two and a half years before rolling — a discipline that defines the brand's consistency.

The lineup is built around three pillars. The flagship Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series, launched in 1994 to mark the company's 30th year, features a box-pressed format and a balanced, medium-to-full profile that has earned near-universal critical acclaim. The Padrón 1926 Serie, introduced to honor José's 75th birthday, steps up in strength and complexity, representing the outer limit of what the Estelí leaf can achieve. The core Padrón Series remains the accessible everyday entry point, offered in natural and maduro wrappers.

The Padrón family — sons Jorge and Orlando are now deeply involved in operations — runs every aspect of the business from seed to box. That continuity of ownership and tobacco supply chain is the single most important reason the cigars taste the same year after year.
