Few family names carry as much weight in the modern premium cigar world as Garcia. José "Pepin" Garcia spent decades mastering the craft in Cuba before leaving for Miami in 2003, where he built a small factory in Little Havana and quickly earned a devoted following for his full-bodied, Cuban-influenced blends. His son Jaime grew alongside him, absorbing every nuance of tobacco selection and blending — and eventually surpassing expectations with a line created expressly in his father's honor.
The My Father brand debuted in 2008 as Jaime's tribute to Don Pepin. By 2009 the family had opened a state-of-the-art factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, anchoring their production in a region whose volcanic soils produce bold, complex leaf. The flagship My Father blend draws on Cuban-seed Nicaraguan fillers under a rich Ecuador Habano wrapper, delivering the dense, creamy power the Garcias are known for. The Flor de las Antillas — named for Cuba, the largest of the Antilles Islands where both men learned their trade — became the most decorated cigar in the brand's history, claiming the top spot on Cigar Aficionado's annual Top 25 list in 2012.
The Factory and Its Reach
The My Father Cigars S.A. factory in Estelí is one of Nicaragua's largest boutique operations, producing tens of millions of cigars annually. Beyond their own labels, the Garcias roll for Tatuaje, Crowned Heads, Foundation Cigar Co., and Ashton, making them a cornerstone supplier for some of the most sought-after independent brands in the market. The Le Bijou 1922, introduced later, extended the portfolio into boxier, fuller-sized formats that showcase aged Nicaraguan ligero at the heart of the blend.
