Rocky Patel cigars

Rakesh "Rocky" Patel was born in India in 1961 and built a successful career as an entertainment attorney in Los Angeles, representing actors and production companies. Cigars entered his life on film sets during the cigar boom of the mid-1990s, and within a few years the pull of tobacco proved stronger than the pull of entertainment law. He sold his practice and founded Indian Tabac Cigar Co. in 1995, debuting the brand at a trade show in 1996.

The company's early years were turbulent. Patel navigated quality control challenges, overcrowded shelves during the boom's peak, and an industry-wide shakeout in the years that followed. What saved the brand was a commitment to long-aged leaf. The Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 — built around tobaccos from that harvest year — became the flagship that defined the brand's identity: smooth, medium-full cigars with substantial aging behind them. The Vintage 1992 followed as a natural companion, and the line has since expanded to include the 1999, 2003, and 2006.

Decade and Beyond

The Decade, released in 2008 to mark ten years of production, earned a classic 95 rating from Cigar Aficionado and established Rocky Patel as more than a niche player. Production has always been rooted in Honduras and Nicaragua, with the Danlí region of Honduras serving as the core manufacturing hub. Today the brand's catalog spans accessible everyday smokes through the Edge series to limited aged releases, with Rocky Patel himself remaining the public face of the operation and an unusually active presence in the retail and event world.
