Flavor profile

Earthy · Roast · Spice · Sweet

The Sun Grown takes a familiar Rocky Patel building block — an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper — and grows it under full sun rather than shade. The result is a darker, oilier leaf with more body and grip than the company's gentler blends. Cigar Aficionado rated it 91, and it has long been one of Rocky's go-to everyday smokes. This is the 6.5 x 52 Toro.

What it tastes like

The sun-grown wrapper sits over a Nicaraguan binder and a Dominican-Nicaraguan filler. It's earthier and more robust than the Vintage lines: cedar and earth lead, with coffee, a firm pepper, and a backbone of cocoa. It lands at medium-full — flavorful and a touch spicy, but still smooth and well-mannered.

Who it's for

A solid pick for a smoker who wants more depth and a little more punch from their daily cigar. Pair it with coffee, an aged rum, or bourbon. To understand how a sun-grown wrapper differs from a shade-grown one, our Maduro vs Connecticut note covers the wrapper spectrum, and the cigar strength guide helps place it.

Track it in the Casa DNC app and rate it against the smoother Vintage 1992 Toro.
