Ashton cigars

Robert Levin grew up behind the counter at Holt's Cigar Company, the Philadelphia institution his father owned. By the mid-1980s, Levin had developed a clear idea of what a premium Dominican cigar should deliver: accessible refinement, consistent construction, and blends that rewarded repeat visits without demanding a steep learning curve. He founded the Ashton brand in 1985 and struck a production agreement with the Fuente family — one of the most respected names in Dominican cigar manufacturing — that has endured for four decades.

All Ashton cigars are handcrafted at Tabacalera A. Fuente in Santiago, Dominican Republic. The Classic line, wrapped in Connecticut shade-grown leaf, established the brand's reputation for mild-to-medium elegance and became a reliable benchmark for accessible Dominican premiums. The Cabinet Selection elevated the formula with additional aging and greater leaf complexity.

VSG and Beyond

The Virgin Sun Grown (VSG) marked Ashton's turn toward a bolder profile. Wrapped in a sun-grown Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf, the VSG delivers richer, more peppery notes than the Classic while retaining Fuente's characteristic construction precision. The ESG (Edicion Especial Sun Grown) followed, pushing the body further. The Symmetry, introduced later, became Ashton's first cigar to incorporate Nicaraguan tobacco alongside Dominican leaf — wrapped in an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado — and earned widespread critical praise. Together the lineup covers a wide range of palate preferences while maintaining a house character defined by clean draw and balanced construction.

Ashton remains under Levin family ownership and continues to be sold through Holt's and a network of premium retailers.
