New WorldExperiencedAshton VSG Robusto
The Ashton VSG Robusto is a full-bodied 5.5 x 50 Dominican cigar under a dark Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, rich with espresso, cedar, pepper, and leather.
Flavor profile
Roast · Earthy · Spice · Fruity
The Ashton VSG, or Virgin Sun Grown, is the muscular end of the Ashton range, and the Robusto is its most popular size. Launched in 1999 and made by the Fuente family, it is built from richly aged Dominican binder and filler, then finished with a dark, oily Ecuador Sumatra wrapper grown under the region's natural cloud cover. The blend uses tobaccos aged four to five years at minimum.
What it tastes like
This is a genuinely full-bodied cigar with espresso, cedar, black pepper, leather, and a dark raisin sweetness running underneath. At 5.5 x 50 the robusto concentrates all that richness into a punchy, satisfying hour, with the depth and oils that earned VSG its long-running reputation. It is bold and layered, the opposite of Ashton's mild Classic line.
Who it is for
Save it for experienced palates and times when you want power and complexity, ideally after a meal rather than on an empty stomach. If you are mapping Ashton's range from mild to full, the cigar strength guide is a useful reference, and Cuban vs Nicaraguan cigars helps place this bold Dominican against other strong styles.
