Aging Room cigars

Rafael Nodal launched Boutique Blends and its flagship Aging Room line at the end of 2010, with the first cigars reaching retailers in 2011. Nodal's background in the wine trade shaped his approach from the start: he brought an oenologist's sensibility to tobacco aging, emphasizing rest time and fermentation cycles over speed to market. The cigars are rolled at Jochy Blanco's Tabacalera La Palma in Tamboril, Dominican Republic, a factory long associated with Dominican craftsmanship and consistency.

The Quattro line — the brand's original expression — uses a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers with a variety of wrapper options, sized and named after musical time signatures. That conceit extends across the portfolio, with individual vitolas carrying names like Maestro, Vibrato, and Presto. Quattro Nicaragua takes the concept further: an all-Nicaraguan puro blended in collaboration with AJ Fernandez at his Estelí factory. The Maestro size of that blend earned Cigar Aficionado's #1 Cigar of the Year for 2019, scoring 96 points. The Solera line applies a wine-world aging method to tobacco — different leaf components are aged together in bales before rolling, which Nodal argues produces more integrated, consistent flavor than blending at the bench.

Aging Room has appeared on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 list five times since 2011, including top-three finishes in 2013 and 2019. The brand occupies an unusual position in the market: genuinely boutique in scale and approach, yet with the critical recognition usually associated with far larger operations.
