The Gurkha Treinta was released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Kaizad Hansotia acquiring the Gurkha brand in 1989. Rather than producing another Dominican blend, Gurkha went to AGANORSA Leaf in Nicaragua — one of the most respected operations in the country — and built a full Nicaraguan blend with Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper leaf.

What it tastes like

The Habano Rosado wrapper has a subtle reddish tone and a characteristic sweetness that Ecuadorian growing conditions tend to amplify. Against the Nicaraguan Corojo '99 binder and the dual Corojo/Criollo filler blend sourced from Estelí and Jalapa, the opening presents cedar spice and black pepper, with a floral note that the Rosado wrapper carries through the first third. As the Toro settles in, dark fruit and leather emerge, and the pepper softens without disappearing. The retrohale is clean and spiced. This is a Nicaraguan cigar that showcases region rather than aging tricks.

Who it's for

The Treinta Toro is a great choice for experienced smokers who want a genuinely Nicaraguan cigar rather than Gurkha's more Dominican-centric releases. At medium-full strength it has body but not aggression. If you're exploring Nicaraguan tobacco geography, our Cuban vs Nicaraguan guide lays out what distinguishes Estelí and Jalapa-grown leaf. Cut with a straight cutter and pair with a Nicaraguan rum or black coffee. The Casa DNC app makes it easy to track how different AGANORSA-made cigars compare on your personal palate.
