The Frank — short for Frankenstein — is the cigar that started Tatuaje's cult Monster Series back in 2008. Each year around Halloween, Pete Johnson releases a new horror-themed limited edition, and The Frank kicked it all off as a long 7 5/8 x 49 Churchill in a coffin-style box. Production is tiny, traditionally 666 boxes, which is exactly why collectors chase it.

What it tastes like

This is a full-bodied smoke wrapped in a dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf maduro over an all-Nicaraguan core. Expect dark chocolate and espresso up front, deep earth and black pepper through the middle, and cedar underneath. The long Churchill format lets the rich, sweet-and-spicy profile build slowly over a leisurely smoke. As a García-family cigar from the My Father factory, construction is excellent — a slow, even burn worthy of the format.

Who it's for

Between the full strength and the limited, collectible nature, The Frank is one for experienced smokers and aficionados — and a treat to save for the right occasion. Pair it with espresso, bourbon, or an aged rum. Since the Broadleaf wrapper defines it, our Maduro vs Connecticut guide is a great companion, and you can compare it to its Monster sibling The Drac.
