Hoyo de Monterrey
New WorldExperiencedHoyo de Monterrey Governor
The bolder face of the Honduran Hoyo line — a 6.5 x 50 toro under an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, full of cedar, leather and pepper.
The Governor is the everyday workhorse of Hoyo de Monterrey's core Honduran line (made by General Cigar), and it's noticeably bolder than the smooth Excaliburs. A 6.5 x 50 toro, it's built under an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a Honduran-Nicaraguan-Dominican filler.
What it tastes like
This one has some backbone. Expect a straightforward, robust profile of cedar, leather, earth, and black pepper with a coffee-and-wood underpinning. It runs medium-full — more assertive than the cream-forward Excalibur range — and delivers a satisfying, no-nonsense smoke of around an hour.
Who it's for
A solid choice for experienced smokers who want a flavorful, affordable Honduran with real grip. Note this is the non-Cuban Hoyo, distinct from the Cuban brand. If full-bodied is your lane, the cigar strength guide helps you calibrate, and the smoother Excalibur No. I is a mellower stablemate.
