Flavor profile
Balanced · Earthy · Spice
The Dunbarton StillWell Star English No. 27 is the most adventurous and intensely flavored cigar in Steve Saka's collaboration with Jeremy Reeves of Cornell & Diehl. Where Aromatic No. 1 courts casual pipe smokers and curious cigar aficionados with sweet, accessible Cavendish notes, English No. 27 leans fully into the Latakia-forward profile that defines classic English and Balkan pipe tobacco blends.
The pipe tobacco component for English No. 27 is a pressed cake of Burley, Turkish leaf, and Cypriot Latakia. Latakia is perhaps the most distinctive tobacco on the planet: a sun-cured Oriental leaf from Cyprus (historically Syria) that is then fire-cured over aromatic woods and herbs, producing a campfire-smoke and leather character so pronounced it defines an entire category of pipe tobacco. In a cigar context — folded into Nicaraguan long-filler and wrapped in Ecuadorian Habano over a San Andrés Negro binder — Latakia creates something genuinely new.
The profile opens with a cedar and earth character from the wrapper and Nicaraguan base, and then the Latakia presence gradually builds through the first third into a distinct smokiness that's somewhere between campfire and aged leather. Turkish leaf adds an oriental sweetness that prevents the smoke from reading as simply "smoky." Burley anchors the blend with medium-full body and a dry, slightly nutty undertone.
English No. 27 is not for everyone — it requires an open mind and ideally some familiarity with Latakia pipe tobacco. But for pipe-and-cigar crossover enthusiasts, it's one of the most singular experiences available in a premium wrapper. Scotch whisky from Islay (already a smoky/peaty spirit) is the natural pairing.
