The Dunbarton Mi Querida Ancho Largo is one of the most satisfying expressions in Steve Saka's Connecticut Broadleaf-wrapped flagship line. At 6 inches by 52 ring gauge, the toro format gives this all-Nicaraguan-core blend time to build complexity through three distinct thirds without the rush of a shorter smoke.
Saka launched Mi Querida in 2016 after leaving Drew Estate, where he had spent years working with Connecticut Broadleaf wrappers on Liga Privada blends. The Mi Querida takes a different path: the leaf is darker, the binder and filler are 100% Nicaraguan, and the production runs through NACSA in Estelí. The result is a distinctly Saka-style maduro — the Broadleaf wrapper delivers the sweetness and chocolate depth you expect, while the Nicaraguan core keeps the body grounded in earth, pepper, and leather.
The Ancho Largo opens with dark cocoa and a touch of barnyard that resolves into espresso and dried fruit by the second third. Strength sits confidently in the medium-full zone: substantial enough to command attention, not so aggressive it overshadows the flavor. Construction is consistently excellent — firm draw, even burn, dense ash.
If you're exploring the dark-wrapper spectrum, the maduro vs. Connecticut comparison shows exactly why Connecticut Broadleaf maduro stands apart from its Shade sibling. Pair with a rye bourbon or a Cuban-style espresso, and track your session on Casa DNC to note how the profile evolves across different lighting conditions. Fans of full-bodied Nicaraguan construction may also enjoy comparing it to Nicaraguan vs. Cuban blends — Mi Querida is a strong argument for Estelí's corner.
