Mi Querida Black uses the darkest Broadleaf grade in the DTT lineup plus a San Andrés Negro binder — the SakaKhan vitola delivers that three-country filler blend across a luxurious 7¼×54 Churchill.

Sweet · Roast · Earthy · Spice
The Dunbarton Mi Querida Black SakaKhan is the launch vitola of the Mi Querida Black sub-line, released in 2022 in limited ten-count boxes with an MSRP around $15.95. If the core Mi Querida is Steve Saka's standard-bearer for Connecticut Broadleaf maduros, the Black is the darker, more complex chapter he added once the line was established.
Three meaningful changes distinguish Mi Querida Black from the rest of the family. First, the wrapper is the darkest grade of Connecticut Broadleaf in Saka's program — heavily oiled, near-black, with a thick veiny texture and pronounced sweetness. Second, the binder switches from Nicaraguan to Mexican San Andrés Negro, adding a layer of earthiness and spice that the core line doesn't carry. Third, the filler expands beyond Nicaragua to include both Honduran and Dominican Republic tobaccos, giving the blend a breadth of terroir that shows in the complexity of the retrohale.
The SakaKhan format at 7¼ inches by 54 ring gauge is a full-size Churchill — generous enough for a 90-minute or longer smoke. The opening third is rich and sweet with molasses and dark chocolate; the middle deepens into leather and espresso with the San Andrés Negro contributing a drying earthiness; the final third builds pepper and spice without losing the Broadleaf sweetness. Construction across the Black line is tight, consistent, and befitting the limited-production positioning.
Production is capped at roughly 3,500 boxes per vitola across the sub-line. For a deep dive on what makes San Andrés Negro binders unique, see our maduro vs. Connecticut wrapper guide.
