The Dunbarton Sobremesa Robusto Largo is arguably the most technically ambitious cigar in Steve Saka's portfolio. Launched in 2015 as part of the inaugural Sobremesa release, it was the first major project Saka unveiled after founding Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust — and the blend he built for it is unlike anything else in the premium cigar world.
The filler is where the Sobremesa makes its statement: five distinct tobaccos across three countries and four Nicaraguan growing regions. Saka uses Condega Criollo hybrid seco, Pueblo Nuevo Criollo viso, La Joya Estelí C-98 viso, an ASP Estelí hybrid ligero, and Pennsylvania Broadleaf ligero from Lancaster County — the only regular DTT line to use Pennsylvania leaf. This blending approach, combined with the Mexican Matacapan Negro de Temporal binder (a temporal-cured leaf from Veracruz), gives Sobremesa a creaminess and sweetness that's distinctly different from the more aggressive Nicaraguan-forward lines in the portfolio.
The Ecuadorian Habano Dark Rosado wrapper — nicknamed "La Meca" by Saka — is a Grade 1 dark rosado priming with a natural oily sheen and a profile that adds toasted bread, citrus zest, and a gentle cedar note to the already complex filler. At medium strength, the Robusto Largo is approachable enough for daily smoking but interesting enough to reward careful attention.
"Sobremesa" is a Spanish tradition — the relaxed conversation that continues at the table after a meal — and the name fits. This cigar rewards patience, not rush.
