The Dunbarton Sobremesa Corona Grande is the most traditionally sized vitola in the original five-cigar Sobremesa launch, and for many aficionados it's the format that shows the blend's DNA most clearly. At 5¼ inches by 44 ring gauge — a classic corona — the narrow format concentrates flavors and delivers the complex five-tobacco filler through a focused draw that highlights the blend's subtler elements.
Steve Saka designed Sobremesa as a post-dinner cigar: approachable enough to enjoy after any meal, complex enough to reward devoted attention. The name itself (the Spanish word for lingering conversation at the table after eating) guides the intent. The Corona Grande's 44-ring format fits that after-dinner context perfectly — it's a 45–60 minute smoke, sized for the dessert window without demanding a full evening.
The blend's five components — Condega Criollo hybrid seco, Pueblo Nuevo Criollo viso, La Joya Estelí C-98 viso, ASP Estelí hybrid ligero, and Pennsylvania Broadleaf ligero from Lancaster County — interact differently here than in the broader 52-ring vitolas. The corona's tighter draw means the combustion column burns slightly hotter, which tends to push the citrus and cream notes from the Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper to the foreground while the Pennsylvania Broadleaf ligero's sweetness takes a supporting role.
The Mexican Matacapan Negro de Temporal binder remains a consistent presence across the whole burn, adding a mineral, slightly earthy note that gives the Corona Grande more gravitas than its slim profile suggests. At medium strength, this is one of the most universally accessible Dunbarton cigars for all experience levels.
