The Trinidad Esmeralda was one of two new vitolas introduced to the regular Trinidad portfolio in 2019 — the other being the Media Luna. The Esmeralda is a generously sized robusto at 5.7 inches and a 53 ring gauge, a step up in both length and ring gauge from the Robustos T. It was designed as a more expansive expression of the Trinidad blend for smokers who want room to let the flavors breathe.

What it tastes like

The Esmeralda is described by multiple sources as impressively dense and smooth from the first light. Cedar, earth, and leather dominate the core profile — classic Cuban Vuelta Abajo flavors — with dark coffee adding depth through the middle section. One of the Esmeralda's most praised qualities is its complete absence of bitterness: the tobacco is well-sorted and the draw is clean and creamy. Medium-full in body, it has more presence than the Coloniales or Reyes but doesn't cross into aggressive territory.

Who it's for

The Esmeralda suits experienced smokers ready to explore the fuller side of the Trinidad range. If you've enjoyed the Robustos T but want something bigger and bolder, this is a natural next step. Budget 60–75 minutes. Pairs well with a single malt Scotch, dark rum, or a well-pulled espresso — the cedar and leather notes align particularly well with peated spirits.
