Trinidad cigars

Trinidad's origin is unlike any other marca in the Habanos portfolio. Created in 1969 at the prestigious El Laguito factory — the same house that produces Cohiba — it was conceived not for the open market but as a Cuban state gift, distributed to foreign dignitaries and heads of government. The brand takes its name from La Santísima Trinidad, the sixteenth-century colonial city on Cuba's southern coast.

For nearly three decades Trinidad existed in near-total obscurity outside of diplomatic circles. That changed in 1997, when Habanos S.A. formally launched the brand commercially at a Hunters & Frankau event in London. The debut was led by the Fundadores, a long, elegant panatela that retained the quiet authority it had always carried as a gift cigar. The controlled release and the mystique of its diplomatic past immediately gave Trinidad a place at the very top of the Habanos prestige hierarchy.

The current range has grown deliberately beyond the Fundadores to include the Vigia, the Robustos Extra, and the Coloniales. The blend profile is consistent across vitolas: ligero-dominant tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region, with medium-plus strength, considerable complexity, and a long, refined finish that rewards patience. Production remains selective, which sustains both quality and desirability.

A non-Cuban line exists under the Trinidad name, produced in the Dominican Republic and distributed through Altadis (Imperial Brands), but the brand's identity and authority derive entirely from its Havana roots.
