The Andalusian Bull is the cigar that made the wider world pay attention to La Flor Dominicana. When Cigar Aficionado named it the #1 Cigar of the Year for 2016 with a 96-point score, this oddly shaped, bull-horn-tipped figurado became one of the most chased smokes on the market. It is still a special-occasion cigar, and worth the hunt if you find one.

What it tastes like

LFD is famous for blends that hit like a freight train, so the surprise here is balance. The Ecuador Corojo wrapper over Dominican binder and filler gives you cedar, cocoa, and a soft sweet-cream note up front, with black pepper and leather building underneath. It reads as medium-full in body, and while there is real strength, it is far more composed than the brand's Double Ligero line. The hefty 6.5 x 64 shape burns slowly, so give yourself well over an hour.

Who it's for

This is one for experienced smokers and collectors, not a first cigar. If you are newer to the brand and want to understand why people obsess over LFD, you might warm up with the gentler La Flor Dominicana Suave Gobernador first. Because it is a pure Dominican-grown blend with an Ecuadorian hat, it also makes a great talking point in the Cuban vs Nicaraguan cigars debate — proof the Dominican Republic belongs in that conversation.
