Flavor profile

Earthy · Spice · Roast

The 1844 Reserve is the cigar Altadis has called its finest non-Cuban H. Upmann, named for the year the brand was founded. This Robusto, at 5 inches by a 50 ring gauge, is rolled at the Tabacalera de Garcia factory in the Dominican Republic and wears an oily Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.

What it tastes like

Under that wrapper sits a Nicaraguan binder and aged Dominican filler, and the result is a complex, medium-to-full smoke. Expect cedar, earth, and roasted nuts with a clear backbone of spice and pepper plus a rich leather aroma. It earned a spot in Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 and a 93-point rating, and the depth shows — this is a flavorful, confident cigar.

Who it's for

Best for experienced smokers who want something with body and spice rather than a mild daily smoke. It rewards a slow pace and pairs naturally with espresso or bourbon. Newer palates may find it a step up in intensity.

Note this is the non-Cuban, Dominican H. Upmann, distinct from the Havana-made line. If you prefer Cuba's smoother style, see the Magnum 46, and read Cuban vs Nicaraguan cigars for the wider picture. Rate it and stock your humidor in the Casa DNC app.
