Foundation's full-bodied landmark in robusto — a dark Connecticut Broadleaf maduro over Mexican San Andrés binder with Nicaraguan and Honduran filler from the AJ Fernandez factory.
Flavor profile
Sweet · Roast · Earthy · Spice
The Tabernacle is the cigar that cemented Foundation Cigar Company's reputation for serious, full-bodied premiums. Produced at the AJ Fernandez factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, the CT Broadleaf version pairs a dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper with a Mexican San Andrés binder and a masterfully blended filler drawing on Estelí, Jalapa, and Honduran Jamastran tobacco. The 5 × 50 robusto is the most accessible vitola in terms of length — roughly sixty to seventy-five minutes — but loses nothing in terms of depth.
What it tastes like
The Broadleaf wrapper sets the tone immediately: dark chocolate and espresso dominate the first third, joined by earth and leather through the middle. White pepper — rather than the harsh black pepper of lesser full-bodied cigars — provides backbone without brutality. The Honduran Jamastran filler adds a subtle sweetness and creaminess that balances the power. The finish is long, bittersweet, and warming. This is a fully realized, complex cigar from front to back.
Who it's for
Aficionados comfortable with full-body intensity and complex maduro profiles. If you're new to Connecticut Broadleaf, our maduro vs. Connecticut guide explains what makes this wrapper so prized. Review the cigar strength guide before diving in — this is a "after a big meal" cigar, not a lunchtime smoke. Pair with a bold bourbon or a glass of vintage port.
