Flavor profile

Spice · Sweet · Earthy

The Espinosa Especial line represents Erik Espinosa's most deliberate construction work — each number in the series represents a distinct format, but the blend philosophy stays consistent: Mexican San Andres Capa Negra wrapper, the darkest and most intense wrapper Espinosa regularly uses, over Nicaraguan tobaccos from all four primary growing regions (Estelí, Jalapa, Condega, and Ometepe). The No. 5 (6 × 54 Toro) is the fullest expression of that formula.

The Blend

Wrapper: Mexican San Andres Capa Negra — a dark, oily leaf from Mexico's San Andres valley that delivers sweetness, weight, and bold flavor character. Binder: Nicaraguan. Filler: Long-leaf Nicaraguan from Estelí, Jalapa, Condega, and Ometepe — a four-region combination that adds complexity through regional tobacco variation. All produced at La Zona in Estelí. Full-bodied.

What It Tastes Like

Cinnamon and dark chocolate open the first third — the San Andres wrapper's signature greeting. Black pepper builds steadily through the middle, joined by an earthy depth that reflects the multi-region filler combination. The final third leans into charred oak and dark earth, with the chocolate sweetness receding but not disappearing. This is a complex, evolving cigar that earns its full-strength designation.

Who It's For

The Especial No. 5 is for aficionados who appreciate complexity over raw power — the four-region Nicaraguan filler makes this more layered than the Murcielago's straightforward punch. If you love the San Andres Capa Negra character you found in the Murcielago but want more developmental depth over a full hour, the Especial No. 5 is the logical next cigar. The Mexican San Andres wrapper is darker through growing conditions, not exclusively through fermentation — understanding that distinction changes how you experience this blend.
