An ultra-premium non-Cuban Cohiba finished in Dominican rum barrels — a rich, smooth Toro with aged tobacco and a sweet, oaky depth.
Flavor profile
Sweet · Roast · Earthy · Fruity
Cohiba Macassar is one of General Cigar's ultra-premium non-Cuban Cohibas, and its calling card is the barrel finish: the wrapper, binder, and filler all spend their final year of aging inside Dominican rum barrels. The Toro Grande is the most popular of the three sizes. The name comes from the dark Macassar ebony used for the boxes.
What it tastes like
The rum-barrel aging gives this a distinctive smoothness and a subtle sweet-oak note layered over cocoa, espresso, cedar, and dark fruit. The Connecticut Habano wrapper and well-aged Broadleaf binder make it rich and refined — medium-to-full, polished, and a clear step up in complexity from the everyday Dominican Cohibas.
Who it's for
A special-occasion cigar for aficionados who appreciate aged tobacco and a barrel-finished smoke. Fittingly, it pairs beautifully with an aged rum, a bourbon, or an espresso. Curious how New World blends like this compare to Cuban Cohibas? See Cuban vs Nicaraguan.
Keep it at proper humidity to preserve that aromatic character. When you smoke a memorable one, log it in your humidor with the Casa DNC app.
