Flavor profile

Earthy · Spice · Sweet

The Cojonu 2012 is the fourth release in Tatuaje's triennial "ballsy" series, and it came in three wrappers — Habano, Sumatra, and Connecticut Broadleaf. This is the Habano version, a thick 6 1/2 x 52 Toro that returns to the line's signature Ecuadorian Habano leaf and the dimensions of the original 2003.

What it tastes like

Dressed in an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over an all-Nicaraguan core, this is a full-bodied, classic Cojonu. Earth and black pepper drive the profile, with cocoa, cedar, and leather rounding it out and a long, satisfying finish. The big 52 ring gauge keeps the smoke cool and lets the rich flavors develop slowly. As always with this line, the García family's construction is excellent — even burn, easy draw, no fuss.

Who it's for

Full-strength and full-flavored, the Cojonu 2012 Habano is built for experienced smokers and aficionados. Pair it with an espresso, bourbon, or aged rum after a hearty meal. If you want to taste how a wrapper changes a blend, this Habano version against a Broadleaf is the whole point — see our Maduro vs Connecticut guide, and our Cuban vs Nicaraguan comparison for the Nicaraguan-core context.
