The Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua was created by Altadis with AJ Fernandez to celebrate the brand's heritage — 1935 being the year Montecristo was founded — and it became one of the most decorated non-Cuban releases in recent memory. This is the No. 2, a box-pressed belicoso at 6.1 inches (6 1/8) by a 52 ring gauge, made at Fernandez's San Lotano factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua.

What it tastes like

Built entirely from Nicaraguan tobacco grown on Fernandez's own farms, it's a refined, savory smoke. Expect wood, coffee, cinnamon, and earth, finished with a long, sweet tobacco note. The tapered belicoso head focuses the draw, and the box press sits nicely in the hand. It's medium-to-full and beautifully balanced — polished enough to explain the high ratings it earned.

Who it's for

This is an experienced smoker's cigar that rewards a slow, attentive pace. It's an excellent after-dinner choice. Pair it with an espresso or a bourbon.

If you like it, compare it with the everyday Montecristo Nicaragua Toro, another AJ Fernandez all-Nicaraguan Monte. New to tapered belicoso heads? Our how to cut a cigar guide covers them. Track and rate your smoke in the Casa DNC app.
